Pharos Is a Compatible Vendor for the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Program

Pharos's AI abstracts patient charts with direct sourcing into the medical record for human review, cutting per-chart abstraction time by 80% or more.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pharos is a Compatible Vendor for the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke program, the largest hospital-based stroke quality improvement registry in the United States. The designation lets participating hospitals use Pharos to abstract and submit chart data directly to Get With The Guidelines - Stroke.

More than 2,600 U.S. hospitals participate in Get With The Guidelines - Stroke, covering the majority of stroke admissions nationwide. For most sites, abstraction is done by hand: a clinical reviewer reads the chart, applies the registry's coding instructions, and enters answers one at a time. A single stroke chart commonly takes 1 hour or more to abstract.

Pharos accelerates that work with a fast and accurate clinical co-pilot. The platform reads structured and unstructured data from the medical record, applies the Get With The Guidelines - Stroke coding instructions, and pre-populates registry variables. Each answer comes with the supporting evidence pulled from the chart, with confidence scoring and clear reasoning chains, so human abstractors can verify outputs rather than dig through charts.

"Stroke abstraction is the kind of work that AI is genuinely good at: detailed, rule-based, and grounded in the chart," said Felix Brann, CEO and co-founder of Pharos. "The point isn't to take humans out of the loop. It's to take the copy-pasting out of the loop, so abstractors can spend their time on the cases that actually need clinical judgment, and quality teams can act on the data while it still matters."

Pharos uses a neurosymbolic approach to abstraction: each registry question is broken down into a structured reasoning tree, with AI models handling the parts they're suited to and explicit logic handling the rest. Every answer links back to the source text in the underlying chart. When the chart contains conflicts or missing data, Pharos flags the case for human review rather than guessing.

The company was founded in 2024 by a team of clinicians and AI researchers. CEO Felix Brann was previously VP of Data Science at Vital, where he and CTO Matthew Jones deployed live predictive AI into more than 70 hospitals across 20+ EHR systems. Head of Research Dr. Alex Clarke is an MD with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Imperial College London. Pharos raised a $5M seed round in 2024 led by Felicis, with participation from General Catalyst, Moxxie, and Y Combinator.
