OKI Introduces ORP-SL105 °C Slim High-Flexibility Robot Cable Rated to 105 °C

— Aims to expand adoption in AI robots and AI semiconductor manufacturing equipment operating in high-temperature environments —

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OKI Electric Cable (President: Hideo Yamaguchi, Head office: Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture), the OKI Group’s electric cable company, today launched the ORP-SL105 °C, a slim, high-flexibility robot cable rated for use at temperatures up to 105 °C. This product is a new addition to the PFAS-compliant (Note 1) ORP-SL Cable Series, which has earned strong recognition in industrial applications. Shipments are scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026. Targeting global markets for robots, factory automation (FA) systems, and AI semiconductor manufacturing equipment, OKI Electric Cable aims for annual sales of JPY 100 million in FY2026.

ORP-SL Cable Series products are industrial cables featuring small diameters and high flexibility to meet the miniaturization needs of AI robots and other applications.

Growth in factory density (Note 2) and process automation (Note 3) in recent years has led to an increase in the heat generated by equipment and machinery within factories, which has increased demand for industrial cables capable of operating reliably even in high-temperature environments. Since conventional products rated at 80 °C can no longer adequately support many devices and worksites, the company has received growing demand for cables that offer better heat resistance.

ORP-SL Cable Series products are industrial cables featuring small diameters and high flexibility to meet the miniaturization needs of AI robots and other applications. Compared to conventional ORP Cable Series rated at 80 °C and 300 V, the ORP-SL Cable Series achieves an average reduction of about 20% in diameter and offers high flexibility to accommodate all types of movements, including bending, sliding, and twisting (Note 4). They also offer outstanding routing performance, enabling space-saving designs, and have been well regarded across a wide range of industrial equipment in the robotics and FA fields.

The new ORP-SL105 °C inherits the mechanical properties, outer diameter specifications, flexibility, and other features of the conventional ORP-SL Cable Series, while complying with a UL standard rated for 105 °C (UL 758 AWM - UL Style No. 2517) (Note 5). This enables use in high-temperature environments where the previous 80°C rated products were insufficient. The cable inherits the features of its predecessors, minimizing the risks associated with replacing conventional cables. These combined advantages ensure production stability and improve maintainability at worksites facing issues related to heat, space constraints, and cable routing.

OKI Electric Cable will continue to expand its lineup of heat-resistant, durable, and environmentally friendly cables for the robotics and FA fields, for advanced industrial sectors, and for global markets. The company supports sustainable manufacturing through a wide range of solutions such as those for energy saving and productivity improvement.

[Terminology]

Note 1: PFAS
A collective term for the organic fluorine-based compounds that is widely used in industrial applications for their water- and oil-repellent properties and heat and chemical resistance. However, because they are persistent and accumulative in the environment, they are subject to increasingly stringent regulations both in Japan and abroad.

Note 2: Factory Densification
Efficiently arranging facilities and production machinery in a limited space to achieve greater production capacity and functionality with the same floor area.

Note 3: Process Automation
Replacing a series of processes that previously relied on human labors and manual works with machinery and digital technologies to enable automated and more efficient processing.

Note 4: Bending, Sliding, and Twisting
Sliding: U-shaped sliding movement (inside cable carrier).
Bending: bending movement at the same point.
Twisting: twisting movement at the same point.

Note 5: UL standard (UL 758 AWM)
UL (Underwriters Laboratories) standards are certification standards issued by a third-party safety certification organization in the United States. UL 758 AWM (Appliance Wiring Material) is a standard to certify cables that satisfy specified safety requirements, including rated temperature, rated voltage, and flame retardancy.
