AHF Endorses Senate Committee Proposal to Detach R&D from Drug Pricing

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has released the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee’s latest efforts to reauthorize the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA):

“AIDS Healthcare Foundation welcomes the U.S. Senate HELP Committee’s bipartisan approach to reauthorize pandemic preparedness legislation. The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act will protect against disruptions to the nation’s supply of critical pharmaceuticals,” said Michael Weinstein, AHF president and cofounder. “AHF applauds U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) for the prize research study provision within PAHPA that will evaluate new models for biomedical research that do not rely on the for-profit motives of drug companies. Alternatives to the traditional model that link R&D costs to drug prices will benefit all Americans.”

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global HIV and AIDS organization, provides medical care and/or services to more that 1.7 million individuals in 45 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region, and Eastern Europe.
