RefleXion Announces CMS Maintains Favorable SCINTIX Therapy Reimbursement for 2027

CMS maintains premium reimbursement for breakthrough SCINTIX autonomous radiotherapy for third consecutive year

Thirty-six percent increase in IMRT reimbursement further boosts the exceptional economics of RefleXion’s dual-modality X2 platform

HAYWARD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RefleXion Medical, an external-beam theranostic oncology company, today announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has maintained favorable reimbursement for SCINTIX® therapy in its final 2027 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) rule. Separately, CMS significantly increased payment for a commonly used intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) delivery procedure, further enhancing the already compelling economics of the RefleXion® X2 platform for radiation oncology providers.

CMS' continued recognition of SCINTIX therapy as a New Technology, together with increased IMRT reimbursement, is an important development for RefleXion and our customers.

For the third consecutive year, CMS has maintained SCINTIX therapy's New Technology designation and payment at a premium to conventional stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). The agency also moved the intermediate-complexity IMRT treatment delivery code, commonly used by RefleXion customers, into a higher payment band. This change represents a 36% increase in reimbursement over the 2026 rate for intermediate-complexity IMRT delivery.

"CMS' continued recognition of SCINTIX therapy as a New Technology, together with increased IMRT reimbursement, is an important development for RefleXion and our customers," said Todd Powell, president and CEO of RefleXion. "These decisions reinforce the economic value of our next-generation X2 platform, which meets the everyday needs of radiation oncology departments with image-guided IMRT and SBRT, while also offering the advanced capabilities of SCINTIX autonomous radiotherapy.”

SCINTIX therapy uses positron emission tomography (PET) signals generated by cancer cells to autonomously guide radiation delivery, enabling the treatment beam to respond to tumor motion in real time. RefleXion's newly introduced X2 platform provides a 20-fold increase in PET sensitivity over the first-generation platform and is designed to expand the range of tumors eligible for SCINTIX therapy.

The 2027 OPPS final rule takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.
