Access Vascular Receives Innovative Technology Contract from Vizient for HydroMID® Midline Catheter

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Access Vascular, Inc. (AVI), a medical device company specializing in developing advanced vascular access solutions, today announced its HydroMID® midline catheter has received an Innovative Technology contract from Vizient®, the nation’s largest provider-driven healthcare performance improvement company. The contract was awarded based on review of the HydroMID® device from hospital experts who serve on one of Vizient’s client-led councils, and it signifies to Vizient clients its unique qualities that potentially bring improvement to the healthcare industry.

The HydroMID® catheter has been shown to significantly reduce complication rates and is the only drug-free midline catheter indicated as anti-thrombogenic by the FDA.

Innovative Technology contracts are awarded following a thorough evaluation of products submitted through Vizient’s Innovative Technology Program. Vizient client-led councils identify technologies that have the potential to enhance clinical care, patient safety, healthcare worker safety or improve business operations of healthcare organizations.

AVI’s HydroMID® catheters feature a proprietary hydrogel material to help address catheter-related complications such as thrombosis and occlusion – potential sources of morbidity, readmissions, and cost for health systems. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) cleared a new anti-thrombogenic indication for HydroMID® in 2025.1

“We’re excited to be awarded the Vizient Innovative Technology contract as it recognizes our clinical differentiation and potential to elevate the standard of care,” said James Biggins, Chief Executive Officer of Access Vascular. “The HydroMID® catheter has been shown to significantly reduce complication rates and is the only drug-free midline catheter indicated as anti-thrombogenic by the FDA. The Innovative Technology contract from Vizient provides us an opportunity to bring enhanced access of HydroMID® to Vizient clients, and the patients they serve.”

“Through the Vizient client-led council evaluation process, HydroMID® Midline Catheter demonstrated the potential to offer meaningful differentiation in today’s competitive landscape. After careful review, the council recommended an Innovative Technology contract to Access Vascular,” said Kelly Flaharty, associate vice president, contract operations for Vizient.

Vizient represents a diverse client base that includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks and non-acute healthcare providers and has a portfolio that represents more than $156 billion in annual purchasing volume. Through its Innovative Technology Program, Vizient works with client-led councils and task forces to evaluate products for their potential to bring real innovation to healthcare. If it is determined that a product is innovative, Vizient may award a contract outside of the competitive bid cycle.
