NetApp Helps Customers Accelerate Adoption of Latest VMware Cloud Foundation Innovations

NetApp solutions validated to support VCF 9.1, giving mutual customers access to a modern private cloud with enterprise-grade data management, cyber resilience, and cost-efficient scaling

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), the Intelligent Data Infrastructure company, announced new capabilities in NetApp ONTAP® have been tested and validated to support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1, giving customers an optimized and secure data infrastructure foundation for their private and hybrid clouds. By combining the advanced capabilities of VCF 9.1 with cost-effective and enterprise data management with built-in security features from NetApp, including safeguarding data against ransomware attacks with rapid recovery, mutual customers can lower costs and accelerate the deployment of their AI software into production.

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 provides enterprises with a unified private cloud platform for running both traditional and modern workloads. NetApp's solutions are tested and validated to support VCF 9.1 environments, enabling mutual customers to immediately begin taking advantage of VCF 9.1 innovations when they upgrade, with a data infrastructure layer already proven to work with the new release.

To fully leverage their data on their own terms, customers need to unify their data estates across on-premises and hybrid or multicloud environments. NetApp first-party cloud storage services are the only external enterprise storage certified to support VMware Cloud Foundation environments across the major hyperscale clouds, giving customers the flexibility to adapt as their needs change. With entitlement through VCF license portability, customers can deploy VMware Cloud Foundation in certified hyperscaler environments and run their VMware workloads on VCF in the cloud without refactoring.

“To keep up with the rapid pace of innovation required to thrive in a competitive landscape, enterprises need flexibility to move and place workloads in the best environment to which they are suited,” said Alvaro Celis, Chief Partner and Ecosystem Officer at NetApp. “NetApp continues to innovate to ensure VCF customers can operate consistently and without disruption across cloud environments. Together with Broadcom, we are giving organizations the autonomy to optimize, protect, and scale their virtualized environments across any cloud on their own terms, safeguarding their existing operational investments while unlocking the future.”

Combining the power of the NetApp Platform with VCF 9.1 enables customers to benefit from:

  • Cost-Effective, Scalable and Secure Private Clouds: VCF 9.1 greatly improves density for both VM and containerized AI workloads on existing infrastructure while reducing operational complexity through intelligent resource management and automated operations. NetApp ONTAP complements this by delivering cost-effective, enterprise-grade storage as primary storage for VCF management and workload domains, helping customers get more from their infrastructure investments without forcing disruptive changes to their applications or operating models. The new capabilities to support VCF environments, including NetApp Console Backup and Recovery and NetApp Console Data Services, give customers additional tools to strengthen cyber resilience and data protection. Complementing these innovations, ONTAP Tools for VMware will introduce advanced datastore-granular replication and consistency group management. By embedding these controls directly into the vCenter UI and exposing them via REST APIs for VCF Operations Orchestrator, VCF administrators will have seamless, native control over their vSphere Metro Storage Clusters. Customers can leverage these capabilities consistently across on-premises data centers or VCF environments deployed on leading public clouds.
  • Enabling Operationally Consistent Kubernetes: NetApp’s support for VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) has been tested and validated to support VCF 9.1 environments, allowing customers to deploy modern containerized workloads while leveraging their existing investments in VMware tools and operational knowledge. A combined NetApp and VCF solution helps accelerate DevOps workflows, CI/CD integration and micro-services-based application development to build and scale distributed systems, running on the same VCF 9.1 and NetApp ONTAP infrastructure used to run traditional virtualized applications. This convergence of VM and container management on a single platform, backed by NetApp’s data infrastructure, gives IT teams a consistent operational model as they modernize.

“Broadcom and NetApp have long collaborated on solutions that help organizations simplify operations, protect critical data, and innovate faster,” said Paul Turner, Chief Product Officer, VMware Cloud Foundation Division at Broadcom. “With VCF 9.1, we are delivering an AI- and Kubernetes-native private cloud platform that maximizes infrastructure efficiency and security. Because NetApp’s solutions are tested and validated to support VCF 9.1 environments, our mutual customers can adopt these innovations with a data infrastructure foundation that is proven and ready.”
