Subway® Canada Turns Up the Heat with New ‘Wannabe Spicy’ Menu and Ghost Pepper Bread
Available for a limited time only, Subway’s new menu lets guests choose how spicy they ‘wannabe’ with three bold sandwiches served on new Ghost Pepper Bread.
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Things are heating up at Subway® Canada! Launching today, the quick-service restaurant’s spiciest menu invites Canadians to choose exactly how much heat they can handle with three crave-worthy options - ‘Mild,’ ‘Wild,’ and ‘Wicked’ – all served on Subway’s new Ghost Pepper Bread.
Designed for flavour-forward fans (not for heat for heat’s sake), each sandwich balances bold spice with freshly prepared ingredients Canadians know and love from Subway. Available nationwide today, the new Wannabe Spicy Menu includes:
- Mild Piri-Piri Ranch Chicken: Enjoy a zesty Piri-Piri sauce served over Canadian farm-raised Rotisserie Chicken, layered with Cheddar Cheese, and Bacon made with Canadian Pork. Finished with crisp lettuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, red onion, and topped with a cooling ranch sauce.
- Wild Hot Honey Chicken: Sweet meets heat with a new Hot Honey Sauce, made with Canadian honey, drizzled generously over Canadian farm-raised Rotisserie Chicken, Habanero Jack Cheese made with Canadian Dairy. The sandwich is finished with lettuce, spinach, cucumber, green pepper, red onion, and banana peppers, for an extra bite.
- Wicked Nashville-Style Deli: Turn up the heat with Nashville Hot Sauce smothered over Black Forest Ham, made with Canadian Pork, Pepperoni, and Salami, topped with Habanero Jack Cheese made with Canadian dairy. Loaded with lettuce, spinach, tomato, green pepper, red onion, banana peppers, garlic aioli, and house sandwich sauce, it packs a punch.
“We didn’t want to add more ‘spice noise’ in a landscape that challenges guests to ‘prove something’,” states Chef John Botelho. “We wanted to provide Canadians with a menu that perfectly fits their spice tolerance and preference. Our ‘Mild,’ ‘Wild,’ and ‘Wicked’ approach gives Canadians the chance to choose their own adventure, with sandwich builds that bring the heat and pack maximum flavour and freshness. For those who can’t break up with their classic order, you can punch it up by switching to Ghost Pepper Bread for a limited time.”
Spice Meets Self-Expression
To celebrate the new menu, Subway Canada has partnered with Canadian-born relationship and intimacy expert Shan Boodram to bring a fresh perspective on spice as a form of self-expression in dating.
Shan and Subway collaborated on a national survey exploring how Canadians view spice in relationships today:
- Some Canadians turn up the heat to impress: 1 in 10 Canadians admit they’ve pretended to like spicy food on a date, with younger adults most likely to do so.
- Spice can be a dating signal: Nearly half (46%) believe liking spicy food may be linked to enjoying excitement in relationships, showing how food preferences double as personality cues.
- Compromise is common at the table: More than 6 in 10 adjust spice levels when sharing meals, most often dialling flavours down to accommodate their significant other.
- Spice mirrors relationship dynamics: Many Canadians describe their current relationship as a balance of comfort and excitement, paralleling how they approach flavour – adventurous but not extreme.
“Dating can be fun and exciting but also challenging as people mask who they are and what they like,” states Shan Boodram, relationship and intimacy expert. “I’m excited to work with Subway to uncover how Canadians can keep things fresh and spicy not only with their food choices but also in their dating life.”
The Spicy Menu and Ghost Pepper Bread are available for a limited time at participating restaurants nationwide. To order, visit your local Subway restaurant or place an order on Subway.com or the Subway app.
