CUPE 4459 achieved a number of key gains in negotiations, including improved wages and a pension. Instead of celebrating these wins, workers are now facing a possible lock out or strike.

Members of CUPE 4459 and supporters will gather in New Glasgow to speak directly to the community they serve and ask for support from members of the public.

WHAT:

Demonstration and information picket

WHEN:

Saturday, May 3, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

This issue is the only item on the table, and workers held a strike vote on April 7, with 90% voting in favour of job action.

“We took a strike vote with the goal of showing Tearmann Society how serious we are about maintaining the voice that staff have had for almost 40 years,” said CUPE 4459 President Patricia Perry. “This has empowered us to advocate for the vulnerable women and children in our community who access Tearmann Society services and speak directly about their needs to the Board.”
