CUPE 2484 reaches deal to end lockout at Ideal Child Services Group

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CUPE Local 2484 has reached a tentative agreement with Ideal Child Services Group (ICSG), bringing an end to the lockout of child care workers that began on October 5.

The agreement follows weeks of workers standing together to fight for a fair deal and better working conditions. The agreement includes wage increases, a pension plan, and added protections for injured workers.

The agreement was accepted by members in a vote on Sunday. Child care centres will reopen later this week.

“We’re proud of the strength and solidarity our members have shown throughout this lockout,” said Jess Tomas, president of CUPE 2484. “This has been a difficult time for members and their families, and we’re pleased to have reached a tentative agreement. Our members look forward to getting back to work, doing what they do best: caring for and educating children and supporting the families in their communities.”

With another pending strike at Start Right Child Care, also in Toronto, the local is committed to continuing the fight for child care workers in the city.

“The work is far from over, and we will not stop our work to ensure that all child care workers have fair compensation and decent work,” said Tomas.
