Thumbtack Appoints Susan Rammelt as Chief Legal Officer

E-commerce, home materials, and technology leader joins executive team

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thumbtack, the technology company helping millions of people confidently care for and improve their homes, today announced the addition of Susan Rammelt as Chief Legal Officer. Leading the company’s legal and trust & safety teams, an organization of 140 employees, she will report directly to co-founder and CEO, Marco Zappacosta. Rammelt will also serve as Thumbtack’s corporate secretary.

“Susan's 30+ years building teams and leading companies through periods of transformative growth will be a great addition to our strong leadership bench as we continue to gain market share in the $600 billion home services industry,” said Zappacosta. “Her unique blend of experience advising both public and private companies in the technology, e-commerce and home industries will benefit our homeowners, our pros, and our employees.”

Throughout her career, Rammelt has a proven track record of not only building legal and trust and safety teams, but also serving as a strategic business advisor. In her prior roles, she oversaw mergers and acquisitions, public and private debt and equity financings, and complex licensing agreements. Additionally, she has implemented countless corporate governance, SEC compliance, data protection and privacy and ESG initiatives. Among her notable achievements are taking SmileDirectClub public at a $9 billion valuation as well as playing a leading role in the negotiations with some of the country’s largest retailers for the opening of hundreds of retail locations nationwide.

“Thumbtack is in an exciting phase of its growth as it doubles down on becoming the one app homeowners need to take care of their homes,” said Rammelt. “Playing in the enormous, yet fragmented, home services industry creates an opportunity to both change how homeowners get projects done, and how hundreds of thousands of local service businesses grow. I’m very much looking forward to being part of this next chapter.”

Rammelt joins Thumbtack from SmileDirectClub where she served as Chief Legal Officer, EVP of Business Affairs and Corporate Secretary. She is also a founding board member of Women in Dental Support Organizations. Prior to her time at SmileDirectClub, Rammelt was a partner at a number of top national and international firms including Foley & Lardner LLP and Dentons US LLP, advising private and publicly traded companies, including SharperImage Online, Baxter Healthcare, Weatherford International, Camping World, Coty, Inc., James Hardie Industries, American Blind and Wallpaper Factory, ZS Associates and H2O Plus. Rammelt is passionate about building and mentoring teams and was the 2023 Women, Influence & Power in Law Award Winner for In House Collaborative Leadership.
