NNPA Salutes U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for Enhancing Opportunity for Black Owned and Other Minority Owned FM Broadcasters through Geotargeting

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), representing the Black Press of America and 250 Black owned media companies throughout the United States of America, resolutely joins with the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce (USBC) to salute and thank the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for moving forward in the authorization process for FM Broadcasters’ geotargeting.

Ron Busby, the President and CEO of USBC, stated, “This is a needed boost for the broadcasting industry, especially for small and medium-sized broadcasters, many of whom are African American.”

Bobby R. Henry, Sr., Chairman of the NNPA, affirmed, “We acknowledge and support the FCC’s progress on this important initiative to further enable Black-owned and minority-owned FM broadcasters to acquire geotargeting.”

NNPA President and CEO, Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr., emphasized, “The leadership of FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, and FCC Commissioners Geoffrey Starks and Brendan Carr continues to be exemplary and outstanding by supporting this consequential rule change that will surely benefit minority-owned businesses who will now be able to utilize the benefits of FM geotargeting.”

The NNPA also stressed the noteworthy importance of the bipartisan support of the proposed FCC rule change. Chavis concluded, “This bipartisan effort by the FCC bodes well for the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to inclusion and diversity.”
