Permian Basin Oil and Gas Growth Drives Accel Compression Expansion and ELGi Compressor Sales

ODESSA, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oil and gas activity across the Permian Basin is driving another record year for Accel Compression and supporting the company’s expansion from its Odessa, Texas, base into a new location in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Accel expects 2026 to mark its sixth consecutive record year as producers continue investing in the compressed air systems needed to operate valves, instrumentation and other critical equipment.

The company’s growing relationship with ELGi now spans portable backup air, stationary rotary screw compressors and larger compressed air packages serving oil and gas operations throughout the region.

“Our company really changed as the oil and gas industry changed,” said Brett Becker, chief operating officer of Accel Compression. “We went from roughly 90% natural gas compression to now being about 90% air compressor sales. The demand for these compressors keeps rising.”

The new Carlsbad location adds sales and service personnel on the New Mexico side of the Permian Basin, where Accel says oil production and related activity have expanded rapidly.

Keeping production running

Compressed air plays a critical role in oil and gas facilities because it operates valves and controls that keep production moving. If that air supply is lost, a facility can enter an emergency shutdown.

“That is why pretty much every unit we put out there is a duplex, and we even have customers putting two duplexes on a site,” Becker said.

One of Accel’s common configurations pairs two EG11, 15 hp ELGi rotary screw compressors on an Accel-fabricated skid. The approach enables operators to maintain compressed air if one machine is unavailable and share runtime between the two compressors.

ELGi compressors support growing demand

Accel initially began working with ELGi on portable compressors used for backup air before expanding into stationary electric systems. The company is now also supplying larger ELGi packages, including many EG160, 200 hp compressors for frack-water applications.

For Accel, the individual compressors must provide the reliability required by the redundant systems built around them. ELGi designs and manufactures its proprietary airends in-house and backs the EG Series with a five-year compressor package warranty and lifetime airend warranty.

“Our reputation is tied to the equipment we put into the field,” Becker said.
