Hyundai Translead Expands Planned Illinois Investment and Increases Job Commitment

JOLIET, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hyundai Translead today announced plans to increase its investment in its new Illinois manufacturing operations to $600 million and expand its job commitment to 3,750 full-time positions.

Hyundai Translead initially announced in March that it would invest more than $450 million to establish two advanced manufacturing facilities in Will County, creating 2,500 full-time jobs.

The addition of a third production shift represents $150 million in planned investment and 1,250 jobs beyond the company’s original commitment. The expansion reflects Hyundai Translead’s long-term confidence in Illinois and its continued focus on growing U.S. manufacturing capacity, strengthening its workforce, and serving customers more efficiently. The expanded plan also reflects growing customer interest in the new Illinois operations and positions Hyundai Translead to provide additional capacity as the transportation industry continues its recovery.

“Expanding our planned investment reflects our confidence in Illinois, its workforce, and the long-term growth of our U.S. operations,” said Sean Kenney, CEO of Hyundai Translead. “This increased commitment will create more opportunities for working families, strengthen our manufacturing capabilities, and enhance our ability to serve customers. We appreciate the continued partnership of state and local leaders in advancing this important project.”

“Hyundai Translead’s expanded investment is yet another vote of confidence in Illinois, our workers, and our strength as a manufacturing hub,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Creating 3,750 new jobs is transformational for the region and it builds on our state’s manufacturing momentum.”

The expanded commitment builds on Hyundai Translead’s collaboration with state, local, community, and economic development partners to advance manufacturing growth, workforce development, and long-term economic opportunity in Will County and throughout Illinois.

Hyundai Translead’s Illinois expansion is part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its North American manufacturing network through sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and proximity to customers. The two facilities will support the company’s core operations while providing flexibility for additional product lines and future expansion.
