Matic Becomes the First American Home Robot Company and Floor Cleaning Robot Granted Conditional Approval and Exempted from the FCC Covered List

Following a national security review, the FCC exempted Matic's Robotic Floor Cleaner and Charging Dock from the Covered List, making Matic one of only three robotics companies to receive the designation.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Matic, the company building the first generation of fully autonomous home robots, announced that its Robotic Floor Cleaner (Model 4MA0001) and Charging Dock (Model 4DK0008) have received Conditional Approval from the U.S. Department of War (DoW). Based on that approval, the Federal Communications Commission's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau exempted the devices from the FCC Covered List on Oct. 2, 2026, making it the first home robot company, and the first American robotics company, to secure FCC approval.

In July, the FCC added foreign-produced advanced robotic devices to the Covered List, its list of equipment and services found to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security. Devices on the list cannot receive new FCC equipment authorizations. Manufacturers can apply to the DoW for review, and devices that receive Conditional Approval are exempted from the list.

In its Oct. 2 Public Notice (DA 26-1063), the FCC described each Conditional Approval as "a specific determination" by the DoW "that such devices do not pose risks to U.S. national security." Matic joins Husqvarna and ANSCER Robotics as the only robotics companies approved to date. Matic’s vacuum & mopping robot and dock were specifically cleared from the FCC’s Covered List following a national-security and safety review.

"A robot with cameras moving through your home has to earn a level of trust that most consumer electronics never face," said Navneet Dalal, co-founder and CEO of Matic. "We built Matic so everything it sees stays on the device, years before anyone was asking. Being the first floor cleaning robot to clear this review reflects that choice, and we think it should be the baseline for every company putting cameras in American homes."

Matic was designed around privacy from the start. The company sources critical components from U.S. companies wherever possible, including their core compute platform from NVIDIA, and assembles every Matic in the United States. Its entire perception system runs on the robot itself, so maps, video and audio never leave the home. Matic does not require an internet connection, connects to the Matic app over local Wi-Fi, and shares usage data only when customers opt in.

"Families ask us two things: is it actually intelligent enough to clean without getting stuck, and will it protect my family’s privacy inside our home?" said Mehul Nariyawala, co-founder of Matic. "We've always answered the second question with how we built the product. Now parents have an answer that goes beyond our word."

Matic is designed and assembled in California. As with all Conditional Approvals for advanced robotic devices, the exemption is tied to Matic's onshoring plan and ongoing product vetting. And, this approval validates our approach and onshoring plan. It’s an important step in the direction we’ve been moving all along: building trusted home robots while bringing more of our supply chain back to America." The full Public Notice is available at fcc.gov/supplychain/coveredlist.

ABOUT MATIC

Matic builds the first generation of fully autonomous home robots, starting with the floor. Its robot uses a five-camera vision system and on-device AI to map the home in 3D, recognize what is in its path, and vacuum and mop on its own, with no cloud dependency. Matic was founded by Navneet Dalal and Mehul Nariyawala, computer vision and edge AI pioneers whose past work includes Flutter, acquired by Google, and Google Nest's camera and doorbell products. Matic is designed and assembled in California and sold directly at maticrobots.com.
