JR Walden Named to Cable TV Pioneers Class of 2026

Mediacom CTO is credited with the founding of company’s Internet business

MEDIACOM PARK, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mediacom Communications is proud to announce that JR Walden, Senior Vice President of Technology and Chief Technology Officer, has been inducted into the prestigious Cable TV Pioneers.

The Cable TV Pioneers, founded in 1966, celebrates professionals who have played pivotal roles in shaping the cable television landscape. Membership is awarded to exceptional individuals with at least 20 years of service who have demonstrated significant contributions to the industry and their communities. Mr. Walden joined the Diamond Jubilee Class of 2026 during the organization’s 60th Annual Banquet held Monday evening at the Omni Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, GA.

Since 2008, Mr. Walden has directed all technology related functions for the company including engineering, IP networks, IP services, central video operations, wireless spectrum management, lab development and operational support systems. In addition to founding Mediacom’s Internet business, Mr. Walden was responsible for leading the company’s launch of VoIP-based telephone services, forming Mediacom’s sophisticated network operation center, and developing a fiber network that now spans over one million miles.

Throughout his career with Mediacom, Mr. Walden has worked tirelessly to position the company as a true broadband leader within the cable industry. In 2017, Mediacom became the first national cable company to offer 1-Gig speeds across its national footprint. More recently, he spearheaded a project to launch multi-gig speeds across the Mediacom network that culminated in the introduction of 5-Gig internet, the fastest residential offering in the company’s history. His commitment to network performance is a big reason why the FCC’s Measuring Broadband America Report repeatedly ranked Mediacom among the top 2 ISPs nationally when it came to delivering advertised internet download and upload speeds.

Mr. Walden began his career working for the U.S. Department of Defense in military research where he was introduced to mainframes, supercomputers and the Internet. Later, while employed by defense contractors Comarco and Science Application International Corporation, he became involved with and ultimately managed an early municipal dial-up Internet business that was acquired by Mediacom in 1996. He attended California Polytechnic University in Pomona where he studied computer science. Mr. Walden serves on the SCTE Board of Directors, represents Mediacom at CableLabs and is a member of CTAM.
