Segal Trials Kicks Off CISCRP’s 8th Annual Medical Heroes Appreci-A-Thon

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Over 90 Segal Trials employees have joined CISCRP’s 8th Annual Medical Heroes Appreci-A-Thon, a two-week event combining physical activity and fundraising to recognize the clinical research participants and professionals who make medical progress possible.

Running September 1 through September 15, the Appreci-A-Thon raises funds to support CISCRP’s work educating and empowering patients and the public about clinical research. Just two days into the challenge, Segal Trials has already raised $2,500 in support of CISCRP’s mission. Segal Trials Team Fight Club also kicked off the event with more than 81,000 Footprint Points logged.

For Segal Trials, the event is also an opportunity to reflect on the people and purpose behind the work.

“As clinical research sites have grown and evolved into larger, more sophisticated organizations, I think it can be easy to lose sight of the very human purpose behind what we do,” said Bonnie Segal, President of Segal Trials. “For all the science, innovation and investment that go into developing new treatments, progress still depends on people. It depends on people willing to participate in research and people who have chosen to dedicate their careers to advancing medicine.”

Segal Trials has seen that impact in very personal ways. Participants have shared stories about returning to work, feeling better and the difference that made in their families and relationships. Research has connected people with physicians, diagnostic testing, and potential care options they might not otherwise have had. For others, medical care and diagnostic testing during a trial uncovered serious health issues they didn’t know they had.

But being a Medical Hero is also about what participants contribute to others. Someone who volunteers for a study today may contribute to a treatment that changes another person’s life years from now, without ever knowing who ultimately benefited. Research professionals make their own commitment, devoting their careers to making that progress possible.

Segal Trials and CISCRP have worked together for years to increase awareness and understanding of clinical research, particularly in diverse communities such as South Florida. Their work has included AWARE for All, the Latina Expo, and a clinical trial awareness event at Marlins Park, now loanDepot park.
