Housing Construction and Woodworking Equipment Investment Drive Air Compressor Sales for ELGi

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Housing construction across the Southeast is helping drive new investment in woodworking equipment and creating additional demand for the air compressors needed to run it.

J&G Machinery, a Sanford, North Carolina-based woodworking equipment dealer and division of Würth Baer Supply Company, says it has seen steady growth as woodworking businesses invest in machinery for cabinetmaking and other residential applications. Housing construction and remodeling have been important drivers, with demand coming from larger manufacturers producing cabinetry, as well as smaller custom cabinet shops serving homebuilders.

That growth is also benefiting Charlotte, North Carolina-based ELGi Equipment. J&G has worked with ELGi for more than a decade, using ELGi compressors in its own facility and recommending them to customers purchasing woodworking equipment including CNC routers, wide belt sanders and edge banders.

“ELGi’s compressors are quiet enough that we can run one in our shop and still have a conversation next to it, and the efficiency, warranty, parts availability and support have all made them a strong fit for woodworking customers,” said Justin Johnson, general manager of J&G Machinery.

Woodworking manufacturers rely on compressed air to support a range of production equipment used in cabinetmaking and other applications. CNC routers use air for functions such as drill blocks and tool changes; edge banders rely on pneumatic components to position and process cabinet parts, and wide belt sanders use air throughout finishing and material preparation.

J&G’s typical compressor sales fall in the 10 hp – 15 hp range. The dealer currently offers the ELGi EN 5 and EN 11 air compressors, enabling customers to match compressed air capacity to their machinery and production requirements.

J&G began selling ELGi compressors around 2015 and estimates it has since placed upward of 100 units. The company also uses two ELGi compressors in its own Sanford showroom and service facility for machinery inspections, repairs, demonstrations and customer material runoffs.

The partnership extends beyond equipment supply. J&G works with ELGi and Pattons, an ELGi distributor and compressed air systems provider, to size and install compressed air systems as part of broader woodworking machinery packages.

“Pattons helps us size the air compressor, we bring the equipment in, everything gets installed, the customer gets training and they can immediately start production,” Johnson said.
