SkinBit Raises $6M Pre-Seed Round to Fix the Last Gap in Preventative Health: Your Skin

Melanoma survivor and Deezer co-founder Jonathan Benassaya launches the data layer dermatology never had, backed by Boost VC, Cleo Capital, Manna Ventures, Profluent Capital, Logan Green, and nine board-certified dermatologists.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SkinBit, the company building a revolutionary full-body scanner for skin cancer screening, today announced a $6 million pre-seed round from Boost VC, Cleo Capital, Manna Ventures, Profluent Capital, with participation from angel investors including Lyft co-founder Logan Green, and nine board-certified dermatologists. The company is bringing twenty-minute, full-body skin scanning technology to the clinics and wellness centers consumers already visit — and building the longitudinal data platform that lets patients own their skin health history over time.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in America, with 5.4 million diagnoses each year and new melanoma diagnoses up 42% in the last decade. When caught early, survival rates exceed 99%, but systemic barriers often block that detection. The average dermatology appointment wait is 34.5 days, and the U.S. has only 3.7 dermatologists per 100,000 patients, overwhelmingly concentrated in urban areas. A 2018 study found that 88% of rural counties have no dermatologists at all. As a result, more than half of Americans are behind on their screenings. The standard diagnostic process, meanwhile, has barely changed: a quick visual exam with no reliable record of what a patient's skin looked like the year before.

"Skin is the largest and most cancer-prone organ, and somehow it's the one we track the least. There are multiple modalities to image our internal organs, but skin is still left to a doctor's memory," said Jonathan Benassaya, co-founder and CEO of SkinBit. Benassaya previously co-founded Deezer, served as Chief Product Officer at Life360, and senior director of product management at Meta. His own melanoma was caught almost by accident in 2020, when a dermatologist spotted a lesion beneath his mask while on his way out of the exam room — a spot that had been there for years. "I got lucky," he said, "but health shouldn't rely on luck. No one should die of a cancer you can see.”

SkinBit addresses that gap, with a full body scan reviewed by board-certified dermatologists and stored as a patient-owned longitudinal baseline. SkinBit is placing its scanning technology inside med spas, longevity clinics, and dermatology practices, with three locations set to go live in 2026. Patients who need clinical attention are routed to dermatologists with a rich, data-backed picture already attached, allowing derms to operate more effectively and at greater scale.

In the last five years, every major health category has been transformed by continuous, data-driven monitoring: blood panels by Function Health, cardiovascular health by Apple Watch, sleep by Oura Ring, gut health by Viome. Skin — the body's largest organ, and its most exposed — has remained the exception. SkinBit is closing that gap, and building a compounding data asset in the process: as the scan network grows, the longitudinal dataset improves accuracy and deepens the company's clinical value.

"The best founders are those who have lived the problem and can't let it go," said Logan Green, co-founder of Lyft and SkinBit board member. "Jonathan's urgency about this is personal, and it shows in how fast the clinical team came together around him."

The clinical team signals how seriously the dermatology world is taking SkinBit's approach. The company's co-founder and medical advisor, Dr. Justin Ko, is Stanford's Chief of Medical Dermatology; its Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sancy Leachman, former dermatology chair at OHSU, created the world's largest public collection of skin images for AI research. Nine board-certified dermatologists have invested personally in the round.

"Dermatology has always been rooted in vigilance, but vigilance is stronger with data behind it. SkinBit gives my patients a longitudinal record I can build on, visit after visit. It's the kind of tool that makes a thorough exam even more precise,” said Dr. Stephanie Campbell, board certified dermatologist at Campbell Dermatology in Oregon.

SkinBit will have three locations live in 2026, fifteen by the end of 2027, and more than 20 in active pipeline discussions — all with zero paid marketing and more than 5,000 people already on the waitlist.
