Soracom Launches Automotive Suite, Bringing Carrier-Independent Connectivity Management to Connected Vehicles
One platform across full vehicle lifecycle for automakers
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Soracom, Inc. (TSE: 147A), a cloud-native IoT platform providing connectivity, cloud integration, and AI services for the Internet of Things, today announced Soracom Automotive Suite, a solution for managing connected-vehicle connectivity across the full vehicle lifecycle.
A connected vehicle carries several connectivity functions that each operate for the life of the car: telematics for location and vehicle data, infotainment for in-car streaming, and safety-critical voice services such as automatic emergency calling (eCall in the EU). Over that lifespan, national regulations, carrier environments, and connectivity standards all change. Managing each function and each market individually creates compounding cost and complexity for automakers, and connectivity provisioned at the factory is rarely the connectivity a vehicle needs years later in a different region.
Soracom Automotive Suite addresses this with four areas of capability on a single platform, all available through the Soracom API.
- Connectivity management combines Soracom Multi-Carrier Integration, which manages Soracom and third-party carrier lines through a unified interface.
- Soracom Connectivity Hypervisor switches operator profiles remotely on a single IoT eSIM.
- Soracom In-Car Wi-Fi handles in-vehicle user experience for drivers and passengers.
- Soracom Consumer Billing handles downstream billing for direct end-user charging while Soracom Split Billing separates connectivity costs by usage type.
All of this while Soracom Enterprise Support provides 24/7/365 incident response for global operations.
"The connected vehicle is one of the most demanding environments in IoT," said Ken Tamagawa, CEO and Co-Founder of Soracom. "A car ships once and stays on the road for more than a decade, crossing borders and regulatory regimes its connectivity was never provisioned for. Soracom has spent more than a decade building connectivity that customers can reprogram after deployment, and Automotive Suite brings that capability to the automakers managing vehicles across the full lifecycle. We are entering the automotive market because the problem it presents, long-lived connectivity under constant change, is the problem our platform was built to solve."
At the core of the suite, Soracom Connectivity Hypervisor uses GSMA SGP.32 remote provisioning to download, switch, and add operator profiles over the air after a vehicle is in the field. A vehicle activates on a Soracom profile and switches to a local or use-case-specific carrier profile by region, regulatory requirement, or application need, with a built-in Soracom-profile fallback. Through Soracom's mobile core, the platform reaches 500+ carriers across 200+ countries and territories, letting automakers apply the optimal profile for each market without renegotiating carrier contracts vehicle by vehicle.
The suite also supports multiple commercial models on a single SIM. Using multiple APNs and traffic analysis, Soracom Split Billing separates connectivity costs across OEM telematics, operator services, and end-user infotainment, so each party is billed for what it uses.
