Infant Formula Manufacturer, Bobbie Doubles Down on Test-Obsessed Culture of Safety and Transparency with Two New Voluntary Quality Measures
Raising the Industry Standard with Bobbie’s New Pre-Production Spore Testing and Third Party Toxin and Transparent Heavy Metal Screening
HEATH, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bobbie, the mission-driven infant formula manufacturer, announced a significant evolution of its testing and quality protocols, placing the company at the forefront of preventative safety in the infant formula industry. Already operating under rigorous standards as one of only four domestic infant formula manufacturers in the US, Bobbie is introducing voluntary, pre-production spore testing for c. botulinum spores alongside a monthly, independent screening for more than 550 toxins and contaminants via LightLabs. This is in addition to Bobbie’s 2000+ safety and quality checks, verifying that each product and batch meet nutrient specifications.
As of June 2026, Bobbie has successfully implemented PCR-Based Inbound Spore Testing for its whole milk powder. Developed in partnership with the preeminent food safety experts at the Institute for Environmental Health Laboratories & Consulting Group (IEH), this highly advanced screening directly identifies Clostridium botulinum (C. botulinum) spores—the microorganisms associated with infant botulism—before manufacturing ever begins. By the end of July 2026, Bobbie will expand this voluntary screening to encompass all inbound dairy ingredients at its state-of-the-art facility in Heath, Ohio. This proactive, inbound testing layer sits on top of Bobbie’s already exhaustive safety infrastructure.
To verify the end-to-end integrity of its products and bring an additional layer of transparency, Bobbie is also now partnering with LightLabs, an independent third-party laboratory. Every single month, Bobbie’s infant formulas are voluntarily screened for more than 550 toxins and contaminants, including pesticides, microbials, plasticizers, BPAs monthly, along with bringing transparency to heavy metals limits and testing in every batch. In a radical move of transparency, Bobbie publicly publishes every single one of these results on its website at hibobbie.com.
“These new safety investments aren't required. No one is forcing our hand. We make them because parents trust us to nourish their babies, and that trust is something we have to earn every single day,” said Laura Modi, CEO and Co-Founder of Bobbie and mom of four. “If our formula doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't ship. Period. As a mom, that is my non-negotiable operational mandate. We will never stop investing in stronger safeguards, pushing for greater transparency, and continuously evolving our quality systems for the next generation and beyond.”
While these two testing methodologies are new, Bobbie’s commitment to safety and quality is anything but. This operational push highlights Bobbie’s distinct position as the only domestic infant formula manufacturer founded, owned, and led by a woman and a mother. This identity dictates a test-obsessed operational mandate that has existed since Bobbie entered the market in 2021. Since then, Bobbie has safely fed over 1 million babies, a milestone that comes from continued dedication to preventative testing as fundamental corporate responsibility.
"True resilience in food manufacturing requires looking upstream and intercepting risk before it ever reaches our production line," said Casey Bauer, COO at Bobbie and dad of two. "Working alongside IEH to pioneer PCR-based spore testing on our raw ingredients allows us to catch variables before they can become crises. Paired with our rigorous, monthly finished-product testing through LightLabs, we are building a closed-loop system of safety. We are test-obsessed because the stakes demand it, and we will continue to invest heavily in the infrastructure, data sharing, and technology required to raise the safety bar for the entire industry."
By introducing these advanced testing modalities and maintaining an open-door policy regarding its testing results, Bobbie aims to shift the broader industry culture away from a reactive, fear-based model toward a proactive framework of communicative, efficient quality assurance.
