Tempus Announces Research Collaboration with Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc. to Uncover Insights on Rare Cancers

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tempus AI, Inc. (NASDAQ: TEM), a technology company leading the adoption of AI to advance precision medicine and patient care, today announced a research collaboration with Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc. to accelerate data-driven research in angiosarcoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive cancers. Angiosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor that starts in endothelial cells, which form the inner lining of blood vessels. It is known for its aggressive behavior, rapid progression and poor prognosis, making it a particularly challenging cancer to treat.

The collaboration will leverage Tempus’ robust datasets and compute and analytical resources to deepen understanding of angiosarcoma biology and accelerate research. This includes Tempus’ approximately 600 de-identified angiosarcoma records, each with paired DNA and RNA sequencing data, along with associated de-identified clinical information where available, creating one of the largest known disease-specific molecular datasets in angiosarcoma.

For a cancer diagnosed in only about 1,000 people in the U.S. each year, this initiative could help researchers identify biological patterns and potential therapeutic opportunities that are difficult to detect in smaller, more fragmented datasets. Key challenges in studying rare cancers include the lack of molecular understanding, limited access to data and the absence of effective pre-clinical models.

“Angiosarcoma, like many rare cancers, has been understudied because the foundational knowledge needed to develop novel therapy has been limited,” said Ezra Cohen, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Oncology at Tempus. “Precision medicine should not be limited by the availability of data, especially for patients with uncommon and aggressive cancers. By bringing together Tempus’ multimodal molecular and clinical data with collaborative research efforts across the healthcare community, we can fulfill the promise of precision medicine by treating the right patient with the right therapy at the right time.”

This collaboration builds on the Angiosarcoma Project, a research initiative launched in 2017 with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Count Me In to directly engage patients and families in angiosarcoma research.

“Rare cancer research has long been constrained by scale. Patients are geographically dispersed, data is fragmented across institutions and no single organization sees enough cases to answer many of the most important biological and clinical questions,” said Corrie Painter, CEO of Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc. “Tempus has assembled an extraordinary molecular and clinical oncology dataset, and the Angiosarcoma Project at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard has built one of the largest patient-partnered rare cancer resources in the world. Together, we have an opportunity to create an unprecedented view of angiosarcoma that could reveal new disease biology, identify therapeutic opportunities and establish a model for how collaborative data sharing can accelerate discovery across rare cancers.”

About Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc.

Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc. is a patient-driven 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to accelerating progress against angiosarcoma, one of the most rare and aggressive cancers. Founded by patients who battled the disease firsthand, the organization’s mission is to support patients and their families, fund targeted research, and share open-source data to advance scientific discovery. By identifying and funding laboratories dedicated to angiosarcoma research, the organization aims to uncover the molecular underpinnings of the disease and pave the way for tailored, life-saving therapies. In addition to its research initiatives, Angiosarcoma Awareness provides critical educational resources, clinical trial guidance, and community support for those navigating a diagnosis.
