CUPE LTC Lead Table Ratifies New Tentative Agreement

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Long term care workers at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 1082, have ratified their new tentative agreement as of late last night. CUPE 1082 acts as the Lead Table for CUPE’s long term care sector bargaining, and they are responsible for negotiating terms that impact other bargaining tables, including setting the economic pattern for the entire sector.

CUPE long term care workers have been on strike since April 13th. They were successful in fighting for a minimum $5 raise for all workers over the life of the collective agreement, additional wages for supervising and training students, and improved layoff protections.

All other striking CUPE locals will hold their own ratification votes in the coming days and weeks, and if members accept the deal, it will officially bring the province-wide strike to an end.
