University Hospitals Integrates Fullscript into EHR to Streamline Supplement Recommendations and Give Doctors Better Insight into Patients’ Actions

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--University Hospitals this week integrated Fullscript into its electronic health records, allowing physicians to recommend supplements and vitamins directly to patients.

“Patients are already choosing supplements,” said UH Chief Operating Officer Dr. Paul R. Hinchey. “Our collaboration with Fullscript, integrated directly into Epic, gives care teams clearer insight and a consistent, evidence-informed workflow — supporting safer decisions, more coordinated care, and a more convenient patient experience.”

Nearly three-quarters of patients incorporate supplements into their wellness routines, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Dr. Kristi Artz, Vice President of UH Connor Whole Health, said this change will help physicians and care teams provide safer care by giving clear insight into what patients are taking.

“The goal of this integration, guided by experts on the Connor Whole Health team, is to improve visibility to what patients are taking and support better-informed recommendations for UH providers and patients, respectively,” Dr. Artz said.

Fullscript offers providers the ability to recommend supplements and wellness products to their patients, directly from trusted, third-party brands.

UH is the first healthcare system to deeply integrate supplement recommendations through Fullscript directly within Epic’s Medications Management workflow. Providers now have greater insight into what supplements their patients are taking, and patients gain access to their clinician-recommended supplements through a trusted platform, with products delivered directly to their homes.

“Providers across a wide range of specialties incorporate nutrition and supplements as part of comprehensive, patient-centered care,” said Dr. Jacob Wolf, naturopathic doctor and medical director of acupuncture for UH Connor Whole Health. “Fullscript makes it easier for patients to access products recommended by their provider while giving us a comprehensive view of supplement use.”

Dr. Jeff Gladd, Chief Medical Officer at Fullscript, said: “University Hospitals is committed to delivering the best outcomes, service, and value with the highest quality through a continuous quest for excellence. Fullscript is excited to partner on that mission by being embedded in the provider’s workflow to deliver the highest quality of clinically relevant products to their patients.”

University Hospitals has a business relationship with Fullscript related to this supplement recommendation platform.
