Nicokick Urges Clearer Adult Information on Cigarettes and Smoke-Free Products

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nicokick.com, the leading U.S. e-commerce platform for nicotine pouches, is urging policymakers, public health officials, and healthcare professionals to provide adults with clearer, evidence-based information about nicotine and tobacco products. The company is calling for better communication about the well-established differences in risk between combustible cigarettes and non-combusted products.

The call follows the Foundation for American Innovation’s publication earlier this month of The Nicotine Opportunity: Military Readiness and Smoke-Free Tobacco. The report notes that up to 37.8 percent of U.S. military servicemembers use tobacco or nicotine products and recommends that public institutions distinguish between combustible and non-combustible products when addressing health and readiness concerns. It also recommends evaluating smoke-free alternatives as part of efforts to move servicemembers away from cigarettes.

“Adults deserve clear, accurate information about nicotine and tobacco products,” said Laura Leigh Oyler, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Haypp Group, parent company of Nicokick.com. “The FAI report shows why this is especially important for populations with higher smoking rates.”

Public misunderstanding remains widespread. Many adults incorrectly believe nicotine itself is the primary cause of cancer and smoking-related diseases, even though longstanding evidence shows that combustion, and the thousands of toxic chemicals it produces, are the primary sources of harm. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recognized that tobacco products exist on a “continuum of risk,” with combustible cigarettes posing the greatest danger. “Too often, public messaging fails to reflect important differences between cigarettes and smoke-free products,” Oyler added. “A more nuanced, evidence-based approach would give adults a more complete picture and help them make informed choices.”

Oyler said clearer adult-focused information should also reach healthcare professionals and other trusted sources who regularly advise adults who smoke or use other nicotine products. Messaging should remain clear that smoke-free nicotine products are intended only for current adult tobacco or nicotine users age 21 and older and are not intended for non-users.
