UNITE HERE Local 11: Fair Games Coalition Calls for Investigation into Dodgy Deal between Casey Wasserman and LA28 Board Member and Former Trump Banker’s Firm

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Fair Games Coalition is calling for an immediate investigation into a potential conflict of interest involving LA28 leadership, following reports that LA28 Board Chair Casey Wasserman retained Moelis & Company to advise on the sale of his estimated $800 million stake in Wasserman Media Group.

Moelis & Company is led by Ken Moelis, an LA28 Board member and Executive Chairman of the firm, raising serious concerns about whether LA28 leadership is using its positions for personal financial benefit.

“LA28 must uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability,” said the Fair Games Coalition. “Its board should not function as a business networking platform for billionaires. The appearance that board members may financially benefit from one another’s private dealings undermines public trust at a critical moment for Los Angeles.”

The coalition notes that this issue comes amid growing scrutiny of LA28 leadership. Dozens of elected officials have already called for Casey Wasserman’s resignation. Additionally, concerns have mounted following the appointment of several high-profile billionaires and political insiders to the LA28 Board, including Ken Moelis.

The Fair Games Coalition also pointed to broader concerns surrounding transparency and governance, arguing that recent developments reinforce public perception that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being managed in the interests of wealthy elites rather than the working people of Los Angeles.

The Fair Games Coalition is urging the City of Los Angeles and LA28 to:

  • Conduct a full and independent investigation into the potential conflict of interest involving Ken Moelis and Casey Wasserman

“Los Angeles deserves answers,” the coalition added. “And ultimately, it deserves leadership committed to transparency, accountability, and the public good.”

The Fair Games coalition has called on Casey Wasserman to resign. Last December, the Fair Games Coalition - including UNITE HERE Local 11, LAANE, CLUE and dozens of labor, community and immigrant rights groups— was the first to call on Casey Wasserman to resign as Chair of LA28 after LA28 appointed Trump acolytes Kevin McCarthy, Diane Hendricks, Reince Priebus, Patrick Dumont, and Ken Moelis to its board. The coalition also condemned Wasserman’s kowtowing to Trump on security, undermining confidence in the Games’ independence and integrity.

The Fair Games Coalition is composed of more than 100 organizations including unions, community groups, housing advocates, and immigration leaders.
