"We are building a sustainable future for all, and we are deeply honored to receive this recognition," said Avi Pinto, Chief Executive Officer, Morrison Healthcare. “Through culinary creativity and close collaboration with our hospital partners, we are focused on delivering dining experiences that are both healthier for people and more sustainable for our planet. This award is a testament to the hard work of our chefs and team members every day to minimize our environmental impact and drive a more sustainable global food system, one meal at a time.”
Morrison Healthcare provides more than one million meals every day in over 1,000 hospitals and healthcare systems. The company has committed to a Climate Net Zero goal by 2050, and a significant part of this strategy is rooted in Morrison’s culinary innovation, with 60% of Morrison’s extensive recipe database being plant-forward. This focus on plant-based meals has been a key factor in reducing the company's carbon footprint, with over half of its recipes evaluated for carbon impact now classified as low-emission.
To empower its clients and guests to make climate-friendly choices, Morrison has embedded ingredient-level emissions data into its menus and made climate labeling available. Furthering its commitment, Morrison prioritizes local, seasonal sourcing and employs a "Rule of 5," ensuring every ingredient is used in at least five applications to optimize food costs and reduce waste.
“Our focus as healthcare leaders should be on the programs and solutions that drive sustainable practices throughout our business, and we are so proud to work with hospitals and health systems that believe in this as well,” said Lisa Roberson, National Director of Population Health and Sustainability, Morrison Healthcare. “This recognition highlights the efforts our teams make to bring our sustainability pillars to life: driving plant-forward, equitable procurement while reducing waste, supporting sustainable and local sourcing, and advancing the health of people and the planet.”
“We are proud to honor this year’s recipients of Modern Healthcare’s Best in Business Award,” said Dan Peres, President of Modern Healthcare. “These organizations demonstrate the progress, creativity, and excellence that help move healthcare forward. Their innovative approaches and measurable impact are redefining what’s possible in care delivery and operations.
