HSG Promotes Former Supreme Court Clerk Jack Millman to Partner
Millman Becomes Fourth Former Supreme Court Clerk to Join Partnership
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, one of the nation’s premier litigation boutiques, has promoted Jack Millman to partner, effective January 1, 2026. Jack, a former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, becomes the fourth partner at HSG to have clerked at the Supreme Court.
“Jack is a brilliant writer, strategist, and advocate who brings appellate insight from the highest level of the judiciary to his diverse attributes as a litigator,” said Richard Holwell, co-founding partner of HSG and former federal judge. “We are proud to welcome him to the partnership.”
Jack has played a prominent role in multiple high-profile trial court and appellate victories for HSG over the past year. He contributed to the firm’s unanimous win at the Supreme Court for the petitioner in Waetzig v. Halliburton Energy Services, Inc., an appeal over a long-disputed question of federal civil procedure in which HSG’s merits brief garnered acclaim from insiders. His successes have been recognized in Law360’s Legal Lions and The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week columns.
Jack clerked on the Supreme Court during the 2020-21 term, Justice Thomas’s 30th on the Court. He complements an HSG appellate practice that includes partners Vincent Levy, a former clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; Greg Dubinsky, a former clerk to Justice Anthony Kennedy; and Daniel Sullivan, a former clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia, as well as former appellate jurists and clerks to the highest courts in Canada and Israel.
Before entering private practice, Jack served as a captain in the New York and Ohio Army National Guards (2006-19) and received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Afghanistan in 2012. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from New York University School of Law in 2016, where he is now an adjunct professor and co-teaches the Supreme Court Simulation Seminar with Dean Troy McKenzie.
“Jack exemplifies the HSG ethos that appellate litigators can and should add value at the trial level as well, strengthening both aspects of their practice,” said Vince. “He adds immense value to every piece of litigation he touches.”
Currently, Jack is part of the HSG team representing Chubb in cutting-edge insurance coverage litigation with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. He also represents H.I.G. Capital, a private equity firm, in litigation asserting claims for fraud in connection with the $900 million+ sale of a portfolio company. A former Ohio certified public accountant as well as a lawyer, he has successfully litigated numerous financial disputes, with wins including a $69.8 million recovery against a prominent hedge fund owner.
“I’m proud to join a group of partners I so deeply admire—and like,” said Jack. “The entire partnership has created an environment at HSG that nurtures excellence, exceptional both in the quality of the work produced and the degree of genuine collegiality at the firm.”
Jack served as an associate at HSG from 2018-19 and returned to the firm in 2024 after a two-year stint at Jones Day, where he practiced as an appellate litigator following his clerkship with Justice Thomas. He also previously clerked for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Edward Earl Carnes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Before he first joined HSG, he practiced at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
