DLA, LLC Welcomes James McGurn as Managing Director in the Accounting Advisory Practice

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DLA, LLC is pleased to announce that James McGurn, CFA, has joined the firm as a Managing Director within the Accounting Advisory group. In this leadership role, James will support the continued growth of DLA’s national valuation practice, delivering high-quality financial reporting valuation services to both private and public company clients.

James brings 15 years of valuation, financial reporting, and transaction advisory experience, spanning Big Four–adjacent public accounting environments, high-growth consulting practices, and specialized valuation firms. He joins DLA from Embark LLC, where he most recently served as Senior Director and led day-to-day execution of complex valuation engagements, including ASC 805 business combinations, ASC 350/360 impairment testing, ASC 718/409A stock-based compensation, and ASC 820 fair value measurements. During his tenure, he oversaw a team of eight valuation professionals and played a key role in scaling the firm’s valuation practice.

Previously, James spent seven years at Grant Thornton’s Transaction Services practice, where he managed valuations for mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting, restructuring, tax compliance, and corporate governance purposes. He developed deep sector specialization in the energy industry, covering upstream, midstream, downstream, oilfield services, and petrochemicals and was promoted multiple times for his leadership and client impact. Earlier in his career, he served as a valuation associate at Empire Valuation Consultants, conducting detailed financial analyses supporting fair value, gift and estate, and distressed debt valuations for major asset management and private equity firms.

In his role at DLA, James will lead multiple concurrent engagements, deepen the firm’s valuation capabilities, and partner closely with clients to deliver well-supported, audit-ready valuation analyses. He will also contribute to strategic practice development, staff mentorship, and market-facing initiatives aimed at expanding DLA’s brand presence and client relationships nationwide.

James holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Rochester and is an active member of the CFA Society of Houston.
