Scott Air Force Base and Hunt Military Communities Achieve Major Energy Efficiency Milestone

SCOTT AFB, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hunt Military Communities, partnering with the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program, has successfully completed a comprehensive energy efficiency initiative at Scott Air Force Base. The project delivers significant sustainability improvements, cost savings, and enhanced quality of life for military families.

The initiative transformed 1,595 military family homes with smart thermostats, outlet and switch gaskets, efficient water aerators, LED lighting, and advanced power strips.

Comprehensive Home and Community Upgrades

The initiative transformed 1,595 military family homes with smart thermostats, outlet and switch gaskets, efficient water aerators, LED lighting, and advanced power strips. Community-wide improvements include 1,000 10-foot pathway lampposts, upgraded lighting and HVAC controls in community buildings, and enhanced pool lighting systems.

Expansion Through 2025

Current projects continuing this year include:

  • Attic insulation and air sealing — Phase 1 complete in 37 homes, with Phase 2 beginning June 2025 for 102 additional homes
  • LED installation — Over 50,000 LED lightbulbs being installed community-wide
  • Air quality enhancement — More than 3,000 PurAirMax air purifiers with four-speed settings delivered to residents

Measurable Impact for Military Families

The energy efficiency upgrades have generated substantial benefits:

  • 2 million kWh saved in the first year
  • $300,000 in utility savings redirected to neighborhood maintenance and improvements
  • $90,000 worth of materials and labor provided at no cost through the Ameren Illinois partnership
