Dollar General Literacy Foundation Awards More Than $3.5 Million in Youth Literacy Grants

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) awarded more than $3.5 million in youth literacy grants to support more than 700 schools, libraries and non-profit organizations in DG’s hometown communities across the country, positively impacting more than 560,000 students. Recipients plan to use the funds for professional development opportunities and/or to purchase books, technology, equipment or materials to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students. A complete list of grant recipients is available online at www.dgliteracy.org.

“As the need for accessible educational materials and resources for our country’s youth continues, we are proud to provide vital support to local literacy programs,” shared Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “The Dollar General Literacy Foundation believes the investment in the education of a young student is an investment in a brighter future. We are grateful to the local schools, libraries and non-profit organizations that are serving students and helping them thrive.”

To shine an additional light on literacy, the Foundation recently launched its sixth annual The Yellow Glasses Project. Now through International Literacy Day on September 8 (or while supplies last), DG customers can purchase yellow sunglasses for $2 each at participating DG (NYSE: DG) stores across the country to benefit the DGLF.

Since its inception in 1993, the DGLF has awarded more than $275 million through more than 30,000 grants to support organizations working to advance literacy and basic education. Today’s grants complement the Foundation’s recent record-setting, one-day donation in the Foundation’s history of more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs across the country in May 2025.
