Dollar General Literacy Foundation Awards More Than $4.1 Million in Youth Literacy Grants

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) announced more than $4.1 million in youth literacy grants to benefit more than 850 schools, libraries and non-profit organizations throughout the country. The grants are expected to positively impact approximately 545,000 students. Funding will help organizations strengthen literacy programs and expand access to educational tools, resources, books, technology, equipment and materials.

DGLF youth literacy grants are provided to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students and are awarded near the beginning of each academic year. A complete list of this year’s grant recipients is available online at www.dgliteracy.org.

The youth literacy grants build on the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s record-setting and largest one-day announcement of nearly $16 million in May. Founded in 1993, the DGLF has awarded nearly $297 million to literacy programs that have helped more than 26 million individuals improve their lives through literacy and education. The Foundation was founded by Dollar General’s former CEO, Cal Turner, Jr., in honor of his grandfather and DG co-founder, J.L. Turner, who was functionally illiterate.

Additionally, the Foundation recently concluded its seventh annual The Yellow Glasses Project to shine an additional light on literacy. This year’s Project featured a partnership with iHeartRadio radio personality and CMA and ACM winner, Bobby Bones, the host of the No. 1 nationally-syndicated Country radio program The Bobby Bones Show. Since 2020, the campaign has raised more than $9 million to directly benefit the Foundation and the programs it supports.
