“Peter is a great communicator, collaborator, and consensus builder,” said E. Eric Rytter, Chair of Dorsey’s Policy Committee. “Peter is detail oriented without losing sight of the broader vision and long-term goals. He also has a deep understanding of the wide array of different practices throughout the Firm’s platform and what is needed to support those practices.”

Originally from New Jersey, Peter received his B.A. from Carleton College in Minnesota and his J.D. from University of Houston Law Center. Peter joined Dorsey as a lateral in 2008 in the Minneapolis office, having started his legal career in the Houston office of another major law firm. As the co-leader of the Finance and Restructuring Group as well as the former co-leader of the Banking & Financial Institutions Industry Group, he has built an international practice and has strong relationships across the Firm. He has significant experience integrating new offices and was closely involved in Dorsey’s addition of its Dallas and Phoenix offices. As a member of Dorsey’s Policy Committee, Peter also has a strong background in Dorsey’s business and law firm economics.

Peter succeeds Bill Stoeri, who served for six and a half years and reached the term limit of the Managing Partner office. “I want to thank Bill Stoeri for his outstanding leadership as Managing Partner,” said E. Eric Rytter. “The Firm is in a great place right now, and Peter Nelson is poised to lead Dorsey to new heights.”
