Publix named on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list

LAKELAND, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Publix has been recognized on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list for the 28th consecutive year, ranking No. 42. Publix is only one of four companies to be named to the list every year since its inception in 1998.

“Part of Publix’s mission statement is to be dedicated to the dignity, value and employment security of our associates,” said Publix CEO Kevin Murphy. “Being named to this list year after year is a testament to the philosophies George Jenkins founded our company on 95 years ago.”

Company ownership

Jenkins believed that when you own something, you take better care of it. Today, eligible associates earn Publix stock each year. In fact, Publix is the largest employee-owned company in the United States.

Promote-from-within philosophy

Since its founding in 1930, the company has been dedicated to helping all associates feel a sense of belonging, build meaningful careers and achieve their personal best. Publix is proud to offer a promote-from-within culture where associates are provided with the training they need to help them advance in their careers.

Respecting the dignity of the individual

When Jenkins founded Publix in 1930, he vowed that everyone he employed would have a voice. He established an open-door policy for all associates. Beyond daily conversations, the company encourages associates to formally share feedback through its annual voice survey. There is also an online platform where associates can share, build on and like ideas for ways to help improve the company they own.

Methodology

Great Place To Work is an organization that aims to promote and enhance workplace culture. Every year, they survey employees working for companies that have a Great Place To Work Certification and at least 1,000 people working for them in the U.S. The survey gathers employee feedback on factors like trust, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie, providing a well-rounded view of a company’s culture. The rankings are based on this survey and essay submissions, and the organization partners with Fortune to share the list.
