Dan Sumner to Serve as Interim President and CEO While Search Underway

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After more than five years as President and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Company, Patrick Fragman has announced his intent to step down at the end of March 2025 to spend more time in Europe with his family. Patrick will continue to support Westinghouse for a few more months after March 31 to facilitate the handover to the new CEO.

Effective immediately, former Operating Plant Services President Dan Sumner will assume the new role of Deputy CEO, and upon Patrick’s departure will serve as Interim President and CEO until a new CEO is appointed. A recruitment process for the President and CEO position is underway and the selected candidate will be announced in due course.

“We thank Patrick for his dedication and leadership during a transformational period for Westinghouse and the nuclear industry,” said Mitch Davidson, Chairman of the Westinghouse Board of Directors. “Patrick has been instrumental in the turn around of Westinghouse. During his tenure, Patrick successfully positioned Westinghouse to be the leading innovator and developer of nuclear technologies globally. Westinghouse now embarks on its next chapter with a unique profitable growth strategy for both the installed base of nuclear plants and new-build reactors of all sizes.

“We wish Patrick all the best and take the opportunity to reiterate our confidence in the Westinghouse Electric Company management team and its employees to continue to drive successful growth, as nuclear energy plays again a pivotal role in shaping the energy systems of the future.”

“We are pleased that Dan Sumner will help lead Westinghouse through this transition. Dan has been an instrumental leader for Westinghouse over the past 14 years, including in his role as Chief Financial Officer and most recently President of the Operating Plant Services business. Dan is uniquely positioned to take the helm of the organization at this time,” said Mitch.

“Westinghouse is an iconic energy company that has paved the way for the nuclear power industry in the United States and globally over the past 75 years. As the world demands more firm baseload power, Westinghouse is well-positioned with its proven suite of reactor technologies and services, a strong management team and passionate global workforce of 11,000 employees,” said Dan Sumner.

Westinghouse Electric Company is shaping the future of carbon-free energy by providing safe, innovative nuclear and other clean power technologies and services globally.
