$20K Grant from FHLB Dallas and Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Gives Texas Military Veteran Peace of Mind

New Windows and Doors Offer Increased Security

HURST, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Retired Army E-4 Specialist Danielle Costly is feeling safe and secure in her home with the help of a $20,000 Housing Assistance for Veterans (HAVEN) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas), through its member Gulf Coast Bank & Trust. Ms. Costly used the funds to replace old windows and a sliding glass door.

After serving in the Army for four years, including an Iraq deployment, Ms. Costly suffered from back and knee pain and was unable to continue her service. “The window and door replacements have really helped me feel so much safer,” she said. “It definitely gives me a sense of security.”

HAVEN provides grants to veterans and active-duty, reserve or national guard service members who have been disabled as a result of their military service since August 2, 1990.

“Programs like HAVEN are so important. We are proud to offer this program to our armed services veterans,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas.

In 2024, FHLB Dallas has allocated $300,000 for the HAVEN program and each household may receive up to $20,000 for down payments and closing costs, as well as necessary repairs and modifications to their current homes.

“We are so pleased to be able to help our veterans secure homeownership and live comfortably,” said Juli Coen, senior mortgage lender and military specialist at Gulf Coast Bank & Trust.
