Eight Louisiana Families Receive Storm-Resistant Roofs Thanks to a $129K Grant from FHLB Dallas and Bonvenu Bank

FORTIFIED-Designated Roof Strengthens and Protects Homes from Storm Damage

SHREVEPORT, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Eight families in Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, received new FORTIFIED‑designated roofs to protect their homes from severe weather. A $129,442 FHLB Dallas FORTIFIED Fund grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) provided through its member Bonvenu Bank, funded the improvements.

“The FORTIFIED Fund is helping families across our District protect what matters most, and we are grateful to partner with Bonvenu Bank in this effort,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas.

The projects were made possible through collaboration with The Fuller Center for Housing of Northwest Louisiana Inc. (The Fuller Center) and Community Renewal International to reinforce housing resiliency for families experiencing severe roof deterioration.

For homeowners like Shreveport resident Phyliss Davis, the improvements have been life‑changing. “Receiving a FORTIFIED-designated roof has been a tremendous blessing for me,” Ms. Davis said. “I live alone, and my old roof was overdue for replacement, but I simply couldn’t afford it. Now, I feel much safer and more secure in my home.”

The FHLB Dallas FORTIFIED Fund allocated $10 million this year for homeowners to receive grants up to $17,000 for roof replacements. As of July 1, 2026, all funds were exhausted. All grants were awarded through FHLB Dallas financial institution members.

“At Bonvenu Bank, we believe that strengthening homes strengthens communities,” said Michael Colston, vice president of community development at Bonvenu Bank. “Working alongside The Fuller Center, Community Renewal International and FHLB Dallas allows us to deliver meaningful assistance to families who need safer, more reliable housing.”

The FHLB Dallas FORTIFIED Fund was established because of a need in FHLB Dallas’ five-state District.

“The FORTIFIED Fund is helping families across our District protect what matters most, and we are grateful to partner with Bonvenu Bank in this effort,” said Greg Hettrick, senior vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “Their dedication ensures that more households in Louisiana can benefit from resilient roofing designed to withstand future storms.”

The FORTIFIED designation was developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) and is a voluntary program to strengthen homes against severe weather. Visit the FHLB Dallas FORTIFIED Fund to learn more about eligibility requirements and application information.
