Maryland State Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary is the 2024 American Gambling Awards Policymaker of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The American Gambling Awards today announced Maryland State Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary has been named Policymaker of the Year for the 2024 American Gambling Awards.

The American Gambling Awards, produced by Gambling.com Group Limited (Nasdaq: GAMB) ("Gambling.com Group" or the "Group"), honor the top companies and executives shaping the regulated U.S. online gambling landscape and are recognized as a benchmark for excellence in the sector.

“I am honored to receive this recognition, which highlights the power of collaboration in shaping Maryland’s iGaming future,” Del. Vanessa Atterbeary (D-Howard County). “This achievement is just the beginning, and I remain committed to creating a regulatory environment that encourages innovation and ensures that every community member has a voice in the process. Together, we can build a vibrant and inclusive iGaming landscape that benefits all Marylanders.”

Del. Atterbeary has the distinction of being the champion of the only iGaming bill in 2024 to pass out of one chamber of a state legislature. While there is still work left to be done, her impassioned efforts have set Maryland on the course for future iGaming success.

“Congratulations to Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary on being named Policymaker of the Year at the 2024 American Gambling Awards,” said Gambling.com Group co-founder & Chief Executive Officer, Charles Gillespie. “Her tireless work in advancing Maryland’s iGaming legislation, even in the face of divided stakeholder groups, demonstrates remarkable leadership, vision and perseverance. By championing a bill that not only supports job growth and local business participation but also ensures a competitive and inclusive marketplace, Delegate Atterbeary has set Maryland on a path for future success in the iGaming space.”

Facing a difficult set of circumstances, including a divided stakeholder group, Del. Atterbeary diligently worked to draft and advance legislation that maximizes job growth and local business participation while ensuring a competitive marketplace. Her commitment to listening to industry stakeholders and crafting legislation that effectively balances state revenue generation, local stakeholder and minority participation, and market access for operators of all sizes is commendable.
