“Harmful for residents and staff:” CUPE to hold media conference opposing Ford government’s plan to downgrade staffing regulations in long-term care

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Ford government’s proposed regulatory changes to downgrade staffing in long-term care legislation is fraught with risk, according to the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

The government is paving the way for permanent employment of lower-trained workers (RSAs) to take over some responsibilities of PSWs. While recognizing the role of RSAs, the union will be proposing a very different approach keeping in mind the complex needs of vulnerable residents in a volatile environment that desperately requires highly trained staff.
