Around the world, people are getting sick more often: At least 13 communicable diseases, from the common cold to measles and tuberculosis, are surging past their pre-pandemic levels in many regions. The post-COVID global surge of illnesses — viral and bacterial, common and historically rare — is a mystery researchers and scientists are still trying to definitively explain.

This event will bring together distinguished clinicians and public health researchers to discuss the resurgence of measles, tuberculosis, and influenza since the COVID-19 pandemic and the current challenges and strategies for preventing and controlling vaccine-preventable airborne infectious diseases.

Declining vaccination rates during the COVID-19 pandemic, notably for children—because of disrupted supply chains and limited immunizations during lockdowns—is likely to be a major factor for measles, polio, tuberculosis, and whooping cough, all classified as vaccine-preventable diseases. Climate change, social inequity, and overstretched healthcare systems are also contributing in ways that are hard to measure. Join us as we explore the resurgence of vaccine-preventable airborne disease and public health solutions to address the rise of infections globally.
