Everlaw Welcomes Gloria Lee as Chief Legal Officer

Lee brings world-class legal expertise to Everlaw as demand for its litigation and investigation platform grows

OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Everlaw, the cloud-native investigation and litigation platform, announced the appointment of legal veteran Gloria Lee to the position of Chief Legal Officer (CLO), effective immediately.

As the company’s legal strategist, Lee advises Everlaw’s executive leaders and Board of Directors to drive business growth while mitigating risk. She leads the legal department and is responsible for all legal, regulatory, and privacy issues across the company.

Lee brings over 25 years of experience as a ground-breaking trial lawyer and in-house counsel, with deep expertise in litigation, regulatory issues, technology and legal operations. Her background with major law firms, government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and high-growth startups has given her a deep understanding of the diverse needs and work across these sectors. This uniquely positions her to inform Everlaw's product direction, especially as the company explores the impact and expansion of AI in legal workflows.

“As with cloud computing and other innovation waves, the legal industry is in the midst of a transformation today due to GenAI technology,” Lee said. “Having worked across the legal spectrum, I’ve seen how breakthrough technology can significantly boost the efficiency and impact of lawyers’ work. That’s why Everlaw has a reputation as one of the most well-loved legal tech companies. Everlaw’s platform is becoming essential for litigators and legal teams everywhere.”

Lee brings a wealth of experience in guiding management teams and boards of directors at leading public and private companies. Most recently as CLO at Commure, Lee oversaw the legal, regulatory, compliance, and security functions, and helped the healthcare technology company close a merger with an imputed value of $6 billion. Prior to that, Lee was General Counsel at Newsela, where she led the company's legal function, building it from scratch to support the company's growth in the education technology sector.

Earlier in her career, Lee served as Deputy General Counsel at Fitbit, where she led multiple legal functions and established the litigation department, handling complex litigation and regulatory matters in the wearable technology and healthcare data industries. This included high-stakes patent litigation, securities class actions, and precedent-setting consumer class actions. Her work involved overseeing patent and trade secret cases against a competitor, as well as managing the 15-month regulatory review process for Google's $2.1 billion acquisition of Fitbit. Lee's experience also extends to the pharmaceutical and healthcare distribution sectors from her role as Lead Litigation Counsel at McKesson, the ninth-largest company in the Fortune 500.

“Gloria’s expertise and vision make her an invaluable addition to our leadership team,” said Everlaw Founder and CEO AJ Shankar. “She understands first-hand the challenges legal professionals, especially litigators, face and we’re excited to have her on board to drive Everlaw’s growth as we continue to innovate and reshape the legal industry.”

Lee joins Everlaw at a pivotal moment. For the past decade, Everlaw has transformed the practice of law across law firms, government and in-house teams with its cloud-native platform. Now with the launch of EverlawAI Assistant, legal professionals can use GenAI to greatly reduce the time to complete core legal work. Everlaw's momentum is clear from its expanding customer base and the high-profile cases it supports. The platform now serves more than 1,000 customers and has been instrumental in uncovering critical evidence in landmark cases such as the Theranos civil case against Elizabeth Holmes, the UK Post Office case, and wildfire litigation across the US.
