Food Allergy Science Initiative Receives Landmark Research Grant from National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to Advance Innovative Neuroimmune Research

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Food Allergy Science Initiative, Inc. (FASI) is thrilled to announce a prestigious Program Project Grant (P01) from the National Institutes of Health’s, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to support a multidisciplinary research program focused on the neuroimmunology of food allergies. FASI will receive $2,339,268 in first-year funding and expects to receive this amount from NIAID annually for five years (a potential maximum of $11.6M), contingent on availability of funds.

The investment will support cutting-edge research led by Program Director, Dr. Ruslan Medzhitov at Yale University, Steven Liberles at Harvard Medical School, and Daniel Mucida at Rockefeller University, continuing their collaboration to uncover fundamental mechanisms by which the nervous and immune systems interact to drive the development and progression of food allergies. The collaboration will also integrate a Bioinformatics Core at Rockefeller University led by Thomas Carroll, Ph.D. and a Transgenic Animal Core led by Brad Lowell, M.D., Ph.D. at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Christine Olsen, M.D., FASI Co-Founder and Executive Chair, will serve as FASI’s PI on the research collaboration.
