Compassion in Action: Local Company Supports Louisiana Lions Camp

Corvias Team Members Volunteered Nearly 70 Hours

WARWICK, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Summer camps for children offer many benefits. They provide kids a safe environment to try new activities, build social skills and friendships, and emerge with greater confidence. Summer camps also take a lot of hard work during the off-season to get ready for opening day. Recently, a Louisiana camp for children with respiratory disorders, special needs, juvenile diabetes, and childhood cancer got a big boost when Corvias Property Management team members based onsite at Fort Johnson donated their weekends to getting the Louisiana Lions Camp summer-ready.

The team of nine employees spent nearly 70 hours over two Saturdays making repairs and updates to the camp facilities, including replacing a door, painting and restoring a storage and prep area, power washing the building’s exterior, and painting the kitchen and cafeteria area. Of note, the cafeteria serves three meals and snacks daily during the summer (as well as weekend camps during the fall and spring).

For some volunteers, connections to Louisiana Lions Camp run deep. Pam Self, resident manager at Fort Johnson, uses a Corvias benefit that provides each employee with eight hours annually to volunteer during the workday (called VTIME). She uses this benefit to give back to the Louisiana Lions Camp every summer. Corvias also donated books suitable for a variety of ages and reading levels.

Corvias Chief Operating Officer and Corvias Foundation Board President Jennifer Sousa says, “When we saw the Louisiana Lions Camp phrase, ‘Together, we build a better us,’ it really resonated. Their sense of mission to build hope together, in community, is a match for us. After all, generously giving back to communities is a core principle of Corvias.”

Corvias encourages all team members to invest in the communities where they live and work, such as Fort Johnson and the surrounding communities of Vernon Parish. Sousa explains, “Our comprehensive approach encompasses volunteering, matching donations, providing scholarships, creating a thriving work environment, and supporting non-profit organizations.”
