Roger Mason Jr., Former NBA Player and NBA Players Association Executive, Joins Oaktree Solutions as Global Talent Business Strategy Advisor

Mason will advise in the firm’s sports and entertainment practice

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global public affairs strategy firm Oaktree Solutions announced today that former NBA player and NBA Players Association executive Roger Mason Jr. has joined the firm as the Global Talent Business Strategy Advisor in the firm’s growing Sports and Entertainment practice.

Following Oaktree’s recent equity stake in Los Angeles-based AIGH, Mason's new role marks a significant development in the firm’s global sports offering. Mason will be an advisor in Oaktree’s professional athlete consulting vertical alongside Managing Director Eric Bland. The practice will offer international business advisory and post-career counseling for professional athletes, ensuring that their careers are only just getting started when they hang up their uniform. In addition, the practice will work with pre-professional athletes as they face the increasingly complex landscape of managing their collegiate careers.

After retiring from the NBA, Mason co-founded Vaunt, which provides fans with access to professional athletes, while also creating opportunities for players to build and monetize their own brands. At Oaktree, Mason will serve as an advisor on international business matters and strategic counsel for post-professional athletes, building on his post-NBA expertise with a focus on athlete branding and consulting.

Mason spent 11 years playing professionally in the NBA. While playing, his interest in off-court business led to his involvement in the National Basketball Players Association, where he eventually served as Deputy Executive Director.
