NEW YORK--()--Holwell Shuster & Goldberg, one of the premier litigation boutiques in the country, has promoted Daniel M. Horowitz to partner, effective January 1, 2024. Daniel has spent his entire private practice career at HSG, having risen through the ranks since joining the firm as a junior associate in 2016 immediately following his clerkships.

“We’re privileged to have a litigator of Daniel’s character and talent at our firm, and now among our partnership,” said Richard Holwell, co-founding partner of the firm and former judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. “While we have watched Daniel’s growth since his first year as an associate, our partners are consistently impressed with the insights and value that he brings to our clients’ most important commercial disputes.”

Since joining HSG in 2016, Daniel has been instrumental to the firm’s success in a number of its most high-profile cases. Daniel plays a leading role in the firm’s representation of Chubb against various players in the pharmaceutical industry in insurance coverage litigation arising from the opioid crisis. He has also represented Visa in “swipe fee” antitrust litigation brought by some of the nation’s largest merchants. Beyond his high-stakes commercial litigation practice, Daniel also represents clients in significant constitutional challenges. He has defended the Public Campaign Financing and Election Commission of the State of New York against a challenge to its authority to issue recommendations to establish a public campaign financing program in New York State, and the Governor of the State of New York in a challenge to a statute related to salaries for legislators and executive-branch employees.

Daniel is also a leader in the firm’s pro bono efforts, and his contributions have helped to secure HSG’s recent recognition from Law360 as the number one boutique in the nation for pro bono work. His recent representations include incarcerated individuals seeking to vindicate their constitutional rights, an asylum seeker before the Board of Immigration Appeals and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and clients in divorce actions through Her Justice.

Following law school, Daniel served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Priscilla Owen (now Richman) of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Hon. Frederic Block of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 2014 and a B.F.A. from New York University in 2009.
