Securian Financial CEO Chris Hilger Signs Employer Support for Guard and Reserve Statement of Support

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Securian Financial Chairman, President and CEO Chris Hilger has signed the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve Statement of Support—officially pledging Securian Financial’s continued commitment to supporting military servicemembers both inside and outside of its workplace.

As part of several company-supported Veteran’s Day and National Military Families Month activities, Hilger signed the statement on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, surrounded by members of Securian Financial’s Servicemember Associate Resource Group (SARG).

“Securian Financial is very proud to employ more than 120 active or veteran military servicemembers and countless others who have current or past servicemembers in their families,” said Hilger. “Servicemembers bring so much to Securian Financial’s culture and day-to-day business. We recognize, celebrate and support these heroes among us, and we commit to continuing to honor their service to our country every day as their employer.”

The Statement of Support is a cornerstone program of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the U.S. Department of Defense. It dates to December 1972, when the chairman of the board of General Motors signed the first pledge. President Richard Nixon was the first U.S. president to sign the statement, and in 2005, every federal government cabinet secretary and all federal agencies signed to signify their continuing efforts to be model employers.

Employers signing the statement of support pledge:

  • We fully recognize, honor and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the guard and reserve.
  • We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills servicemembers bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire guardsmen, reservists and veterans.
  • We will continually recognize and support our country’s servicemembers and their families, in peace, in crises and in war.

SARG is Securian Financial’s employee-led group for veterans, current servicemembers, military families and supporters. Members meet to build relationships with peers, enhance veteran recruitment, and increase morale and retention within the military community at Securian Financial.
