College of American Pathologists Honors 29 Members/Residents at CAP23 Annual Meeting

Bharati Suketu Jhaveri, MD, FCAP, Named Pathologist of the Year

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The College of American Pathologists (CAP), the world’s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and the leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs, honored several of its members for their contributions to pathology and laboratory medicine during its annual meeting, in Chicago, Illinois October 7-10, 2023.

In recognition of her long and distinguished career in pathology, the CAP named Bharati Suketu Jhaveri, MD, FCAP, Pathologist of the Year. Dr. Jhaveri has devoted much of her professional life to the CAP. A mentor and leader, she has worked with members on many committees, especially during her eight years on the CAP Board of Governors and throughout her tenure as chair of the Council on Membership and Professional Development and chair of the Council on Accreditation.

“I am grateful to be recognized for this prestigious award from the College of American Pathologists and consider this award encouragement to continue,” shares Dr. Jhaveri. “It is indeed an honor to be recognized by your peers for doing something that you are passionate about and love to do.”

Much of Dr. Jhaveri’s time at the CAP has revolved around the House of Delegates (HOD) and in national and international inspections. She leads laboratory accreditation teams throughout the world and participates in international accreditation/educational seminars. Also, as a member of the Foundation Board of Directors, was heavily involved in the Foundation’s Empowering Our Future fundraising campaign, which raised over $2 million.

“Pathologists are very important clinicians/physicians in the care of patients and the CAP has partnered with its members and staff to prepare the pathologists with excellent tools to help provide quality care in a timely manner,” explains Dr. Jhaveri. “Its accreditation and education programs support both the young and established pathologists. The CAP’s advocacy and membership programs ensure we are well equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

An engaged and focused pathologist, Dr. Jhaveri is an all-star player who has made significant contributions to all parts of the CAP—HOD, membership, accreditation, education, and advocacy. She is a role model, a cheerleader, and a tireless donor of her time and talent.

After a long career as a community pathologist, including serving as medical director of St. John’s Hospital Laboratory in Springfield, Illinois, and as a Clinical Professor at Southern Illinois University, Dr. Jhaveri currently serves as a Medical Consultant at the Illinois Department of Human Services.
