Public lands are our birthright,” said Hipcamp CEO and Founder Alyssa Ravasio. “We believe the outdoors should be accessible to all. For that reason, we’re proud to offer Hipcamp Alerts to all campers free of charge. By expanding access to nature and boosting park revenue, Hipamp can play an important role in securing the ongoing relevance and sustainability of our public lands. We’re also thrilled that Hipcamp Alerts will surface affordable private land campsites near desired locations across the more than 5 million acres of land that are found only on Hipcamp.”

The partnership between Hipcamp and Campflare will scale access to public lands availability data for millions of users by scanning more than 350,000 public campsites for cancellations and allowing unlimited alerts for all campers who sign up for the new service.

“In recent years, campsites that were intended to be used by all members of the public have increasingly been available only to the wealthy and technologically advanced,” said 22-year-old Campflare Co-Founder Carter Harrison. “Partnering with Hipcamp expands access to our public lands to every camper—not just those who can afford to pay for a scanner service.”

Hipcamp’s top 4 tips for scoring a sold-out national or state campground

1. Create a Hipcamp Alert: You can sign up for as many campsite notifications as you like. They’re free, and will be forever.

2. Be flexible on dates and open to a last-minute trip: Most cancellations happen within a few days of a trip, so be ready to spring into action at the last minute.

3. Be willing to site-hop within your desired campground: Planning a week-long stay? Be open to the idea of booking one campsite for a few nights, then moving to another site in the same campground for the rest of your trip. Short reservations are always easier to find than long ones.

4. Respond to your Hipcamp Alert as quickly as possible: Everyone gets alerts at the same time, so the most popular campsites may be re-booked within seconds, while others may not be re-booked for several minutes. Either way, make your reservation as quickly as possible!
