A recent Becker’s Healthcare article revealed that 45 hospitals in the U.S. were closing departments or ending services for various reasons. Many inpatient and outpatient providers rely on available anesthesiology to perform necessary procedures, including obstetrics/gynecology, general surgery and chronic pain management. When a facility is unable to secure nurses, doctors or advanced practice providers within a specific specialty, it is often forced to reduce or remove those services, often leaving patients to either travel long distances or forgo care altogether.
