QUEENSBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ImmunoTek Bio Centers opens its newest ImmunoTek Plasma on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in Queensbury, New York. The new center is the company's first location in New York, and it encourages the Queensbury community to visit the state-of-the-art facility and learn more about the need for blood-plasma donations.
Marvin Dyke, President of ImmunoTek, expressed, "Donating blood-plasma at centers such as ImmunoTek Plasma is an incredible way to help improve the lives of individuals with chronic rare diseases and disorders, many of which are life-threatening. It is truly a life-saving gift for these individuals who rely on plasma-derived medications. We are proud to add the Queensbury, New York, location to our growing fleet of plasma donation centers across the nation."
By removing the red and white blood cells from the blood, what remains is the golden liquid called plasma. Blood-plasma helps create medicines and plasma-based therapies that treat patients with various diseases and disorders, including shock and burn patients, bleeding disorders, transplant patients, those suffering from autoimmune diseases, and many others. Scientists cannot synthesize blood-plasma, so centers like the new ImmunoTek Plasma in Queensbury are vital to keeping up with the worldwide demand for plasma.
The United States provides 2/3 of the world's plasma, and the demand increases by 6% - 8% yearly. "We are excited to add Queensbury to the ImmunoTek family and to know that our donors are doing their part to help others. While we compensate donors for their time, the real gift is that donated plasma saves lives," said Blair McKinney, Chief Operating Officer of ImmunoTek Bio Centers. "In addition to donor compensation, the new ImmunoTek donation center will create new jobs in Queensbury, and we anticipate making a $5 million economic impact yearly."
To be eligible to donate plasma, in-house medical professionals conduct a medical screening, medical history review, and physical exam. Donating plasma is much like making a blood donation. A safe, sterile, automated process called plasmapheresis separates plasma from the blood and returns the remaining red blood cells to the donor. Donors can give plasma up to twice a week.
"We are thrilled to be at the forefront of providing life-saving plasma products to those in need. Our donors are the heart of our operation, and we are humbled by their generosity and dedication to making a difference. Our team is excited to positively impact the Queensbury community," said Nichole Sutphin, Center Manager of the new Queensbury Center.
ImmunoTek Plasma's new Queensbury location is at 176 Quaker Rd and will operate Tuesday – Saturday. Walk-in donors are welcome for their first donation; subsequent donations are only by appointment. If you need more information or want to make an appointment, call the center at 518-480-2971 or visit www.immunotek.com.
