PORTAGE, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Metronet today announced that construction of their multi-gigabit fiber optic network has officially begun in Portage. Metronet’s fully funded multimillion-dollar investment will provide residents and businesses throughout the city with access to Metronet’s 100% fiber optic internet. Upon completion of construction, Portage will join the country’s internet elite as a Certified Gigabit City.
Construction has begun near the intersection of Westcove Drive, Mcgillicuddy Lane, and Angling Road and will move rapidly throughout the community with the first customers in Portage expected to gain access to service by this summer. As construction progresses, customers may sign up for presale to indicate their interest and prioritize service installation once available. Those interested in Metronet services may visit Metronet.com to access presale and to be notified once their address is available for installation.
“Metronet is embarking on the construction of essential infrastructure to bring a state-of-the-art, fiber-optic internet network with multi-gigabit speeds to homes and businesses in Portage," stated Ben Ruzick, Metronet Government Affairs Director. "Through the rapid deployment of ultra-high-speed internet, the community will enjoy seamless connectivity to fulfill their diverse online needs. Our close collaboration with city leadership underscores our dedication to providing Portage residents and businesses with exceptional multi-gigabit service they will value.”
As construction advances, residents will see Metronet trucks throughout the area as construction activities continue. Residents will receive communication by mail about construction activity in their neighborhood 30 days prior to starting. Additional messaging, such as yard signs, will also be provided to notify residents of when construction is beginning in their neighborhood. Metronet crews are identified by ID tags and branded Metronet vehicles.
Metronet plans to hire local market management positions, sales and customer service professionals and service technicians to support the Portage area. Those interested in joining the Metronet team can visit metronet.com/careers to search available positions and to submit applications.
